Wow, there are some sweet desktops in this thread! viperdvman's desktop is one of my favorites. My desktop is pretty minimalistic and simple compared to half of these.

Yeah, still can't get the drivers for my SD card slot to compile. Probably using the wrong syntax; I'll figure it out eventually, just like with my wireless drivers.

Theme : Clearlooks 2 from older Ubuntu releases. Finally got the window buttons on the right side instead of the left. Link = http://art.gnome.org/themes/metacity?page=2
Distro : Ubuntu Lucid Lynx 10.04 LTS
Wallpaper : Autumn Vaporeon by Jiayi | Link : http://browse.deviantart.com/?qh=&se...oreon#/d3kndg7
    Icon Set : Ubuntu Mono-Dark
Programs : Wallpapoz, for switching to different wallpapers in each virtual desktop. This is where I got the package last time : http://www.spotht.com/2010/07/instal...ge-ubuntu.html (Can't seem to find it the Ubuntu package search.)

Very nice. I LOVE clearlooks. With the exception of the change of colors, and the added icons on the right of the System Menu, this is how I used to have Karmic set up

I've never been one to do extreme customizations, for whatever reason. I prefer minimalist but not CRAZY minimalist.

Here is my very simple conky configuration. It's maybe a good starting point for newcomers. Check out the screenshot here and head over to my site for more details.

Got any simple information on how you so effectively Gnome 2-ified XFCE? I've never been able to get to that level of accuracy when I have made the attempt.

Well, if you're talking minimalistic desktops, check mine out.

    Full-size screenshot here:

My Bodhi Linux desktop, running Enlightenment desktop environment/window manager. The screenshot is nearly a couple months old, and therefore not quite up to date. I've since changed my icon theme and wallpaper, and probably added a few more stuff to the dock. I'll get a new screenshot soon.

    Computer:
    Desktop
    Distro: Bodhi Linux 1.3.0
    Desktop Environment: E17 "Enlightenment"
    Theme: Bodhi Linux "Angelic Theme"
Wallpaper: my custom-made Legend of Zelda live-action Saria collage wallpaper
    Icons:
    Default
    Dock: "Engage" gadget
Apps in Dock: "Start" gadget, "News" gadget, "Forecast" gadget, File Manager, Firefox, Midori, Pidgin, Audacious, VLC, Leafpad, LXTerminal, Synaptic, Task Manager, "Mem" RAM gadget, Volume Control, Systray, "TClock" gadget

Don't like Unity? Hate it? Not your cup of coffee? Ubuntu does provide choices. There's GNOME Shell, KDE Plasma, Xfce, LXDE, and now MATE and Cinnamon. Take your pick

    Re: Finicky February screen shots

Slight change to my Ubuntu's primary GNOME 2.32 desktop, and am posting the screenshot of a couple of open windows to show off the theme.

    Full-size screenshot here:
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...shotUbu11a.jpg

As you can see, I'm running a modified Radiance theme, "Radiance Yellow", found in this PPA:

    Code:
    sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ravefinity-project/ppa
    sudo apt-get update
    sudo apt-get install ambiance-colors radiance-colors
Actually, it looks more gold than yellow. I like how Radiance Yellow fits the Legend of Zelda theme very well because of its more gold-like look. In fact, the different colors could be used to fit whatever wallpaper or theme you're running

    Computer:
    Desktop
    Distro: Ubuntu 11.04
Desktop Environment: Ubuntu Classic (GNOME 2.32)
    Theme: Radiance Yellow (from ppa:ravefinity-project/ppa)
Wallpaper: custom Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword "Skyward Romance" wallpaperIcons: Ubuntu Mono Light
Special Features: AWN with Light theme and "Curved" style
