Dell Latitude E6510 Screen Not Working After Update

I've been running Ubuntu 11.10 for a while on my laptop with no problem but after the latest update yesterday (about 6 updates from memory) this morning my laptop screen won't display anything. My external monitor from the dock is working fine.

The laptop screen is working on the BIOS boot screen but once the OS is booting there is no display on it.
The brightness is working fine so I believe it is a display driver issue.

Installing the 80-odd new updates this morning didn't help things.
Is there a way to roll back the updates? Can anyone offer any assistance?

Following answer 2 on this thread (posted after my post) reverting back to the previous kernel worked so it looks like the kernel update broke it.
