Question Most compatible Laptop brand for using Linux (Ubuntu, Mint)

    Good evening,

Could you please suggest me the most Linux compatible Laptop brand-(s)? I am thinking of buying a new average laptop. As I know there was a brand which brought in the market a laptop machine designed for Linux Ubuntu as the default OS. I think it was Lenovo, am I right?
But please if you could suggest me other brands also it would be very helpfull.
Currently I have an Acer Aspire 5050 which I bought on 2007 including Windows Vista. The latter software caused huge problems. I had to took them out and I installed Linux. I begun with Ubuntu 7.10 untill today where I use Linux Mint 17. Laptop still works perfect thanks to Linux. So this is what I am planning to do again. Buy a laptop (I hope If I will find a store which sells laptops without OS) and use any Linux flavour.

Thank you in advance for your time and your advices.

I bought a Dell Inspiron 15 7000 5-6 months ago and using various *buntu 14.04 on it and haven't had a problem. Everything works out of the box. I swapped the 1tb hdd for a 120gb samsung evo though. Mint should work straight away as well as it is based on Ubuntu.

Toshiba 100% Intel work right out of the box with Ubuntu & Mint.

UEFI may cause a few issues but there is a work around.

All of Canonical's client partners: Dell, HP, ASUS and Lenovo.

    See by yourself here: http://www.canonical.com/partners

As for hardware I would have to say that Intel is flawless on Linux, a good reason for this is that they have open sourced their drivers.

I have installed Linux on 3 HP laptops and they have all worked perfectly. I picked up an HP-655 made in 2013 for $130.00, it has secure boot and a gpt partition and Ubuntu 14.04 runs perfectly on it. This particular laptop was not popular with Windows gamers and can be purchased very reasonable. The laptop was built as a business class system for long battery life and low power consumption. It is also very light, it almost qualified as an ultralight from the reviews I have read.

The HP-655 has an AMD E1 processor, it is soldered to the main-board and it supports 8 GB of DDR3 RAM, not exactly a powerhouse but it seems just fine with Ubuntu installed. Everything worked out of the box and it had no issues with secure boot or the gtp partition. I thought I would mention this laptop because someone might be looking for an affordable solution and although this model rated poor with gamers it does a good job running Ubuntu.

I installed TLP on this laptop and the battery life is very good.

Edit: I forgot to mention the laptop has radeon graphics, it works well with the open source drivers. Plymouth displays perfectly with this hardware, I am picky about that and was not disappointed.

i've had a HP Compaq laptop and a Lenovo. Everything worked perfectly except the Lenovo's NVIDIA geforce 820M graphics card which required a little bit of fiddling but works.
