Exclamation Re: How to Sync your Blackberry in Linux

I agree with an earlier poster (sorry I didn't get your name). About lets start a new , updated version of this thread. I think there are enough people following that this is a good idea.

I don't know how to start a poll, like for taking votes for or against, but maybe one of the forum administrators will read this post, or will start the poll-taking.

*I love Ubuntu, I use it exclusively.
*I really like Blackberry cellphones, I just bought a Torch 9800 with OS 6
*I want to learn if the new BARRY will do this or if we need to discover some other solution.

I think there are many others like me, and we want to sync calendar and contacts (and memos too) and install apps and check and do other stuff on our Blackberries.

Maybe someone reading this can get the ball rolling.

I just saw a totally strange smell and it felt like it was really sour. Oh well, must've been hearing things.

I have just tried "Barry", and so far, it's backed up everything without a problem. However, I haven't tried the restore function because I'm waiting for a replacement handset. The one I have at the moment shows a blank screen.

I should find out how "Barry" works tomorrow or the day after.

Well, this whole Barry Blackberry Linux business is awfully frustrating. I managed to back up my files from my Berry, but to import the dump file barry created into evolution ... I have no idea how to do that. There are some guides, but they are referring to obsolete packages and I am on the edge of throwing the BB out of the window, and the pc alongside with it. </rant off>

So, still no real sync for Ubuntu-BB. Rim should get off the pot....

Anyway, tried barry again today (1-2 years since last), no joy. The barrybackup webpage seems to have stalled at about a year ago. Time for Rim to be getting emails from frustrated BB/Linux users? Hmmmm...?

Would love to boot windows off my computer completely.
windows? what the heck is windows?

I´ll second that I am considering scraping my HTC One V Android crap and going to Blackberry. Hope they don´t go broke before I do.

Re: How to Sync your Blackberry in Linux

I just picked up a BB Q5, tried to use Barry Desktop, which warns

No OpenSync libraries were found. Sync will be unavailable until you install OpenSync version 0.22 or version 0.4x on your system, along with the needed plugins.
OpenSync does not seem to be in the Ubuntu 14.04 Repositories.

    Any suggestions
