    52000 errors on laptop hdd

    Hey i have had ubuntu a while now but this is the first time i have had trouble that i could not find relatively easily my hdd on my toshiba a300 will not hold an operating system for more that a couple weeks. i downloaded GSmartControll and it told me that there are 52618 errors. the hdd is a FUJITSU MHX2250BT. the os will run for about a week then small thing will start happening until the whole system just freezes whenever it start up then i reformat and start allover again.

    any help would be brilliant

    Sounds like the drive is dying ...

    You write stuff to it, sectors go bad and eventually, something needed by the OS gets corrupted.

    Then, you reformat, reinstall, and it happens again.

    When sectors go bad, the hard drive controller marks those sectors as unusable, so when you reformat, those bad sectors are not used again.

    Since this keeps happening again and again, my guess is that additional sectors keep failing.

    If you can find out the make and model drive, you can visit the manufacturer's website to see if they offere a downloadable utility you can use to check the health of the drive.

    The solution is easy: a new hard drive.
