Perhaps this display server is a Wayland based one
The article is speculation, so it has to be taken with a grain of salt. However, it does seem a bit odd that since Canonical's announcement of their intentions to use Wayland, they have shown almost no interest in it at all, yet they've shown a clear interest in branching out into the mobile market with Ubuntu Phone OS.

From what I can piece together, either Canonical will be using Wayland with their own compositor, or they'll be using some type of Android display server fork. I don't really see any alternative, but I do see points in both cases that only strengthen the need for this very project that nerdopolis is working on.

If Canonical decides to go with their own Wayland compositor:
Since Wayland has largely been ignored by Cannonical, they'll need to see what works and doesn't work on their own distribution and come up with solutions to things that don't work. RBOS already has a jump on this.

If Canonical decides to a fork of Android code:
The RBOS project may be the only easy means of using Wayland on Ubuntu. This is more likely, since they already have already displayed interest and some level of experience in Android, not to mention Android is already on production devices, while Wayland isn't ready for that phase quite yet.

Either way, regardless of what direction Canonical goes in, the work on RBOS is still needed and greatly appreciated.

I wonder why RBOS is not on Distrowatch ?
Maybe more people would get on and help out.

Hard to say really. I'll be glad when Wayland itself gets to the point of being usable for every day stuff. I was hoping it would get there a bit sooner, but it will get there.

Actually, I think it's on their waiting list. http://distrowatch.com/dwres.php?resource=submit

    @neropolis

    Thought I'd say Hi!

Lot of odd OS's on DistroWatch lateley, I see your switching over to Raring, is there a new OS comming soon?

I've been trying Arch for awhile, but not much luck getting Wayland to work as good as RBLOS

Did you ever get that Hawaii stuff to do anything ?

    Good luck, later, Cecil

I might release a new ISO soon,
as far as Hawaii goes, I noticed they made a change that might get the compositor to compile, which has the Desktop environment, and panels... I'll try to see if it working on Weston though...
I'm also experiancing a problem with some programs crashing Weston now on Virtualbox, and I also would like to get a Wayland login manager working, to not have to rely on X for login before I release a new ISO.
