    Question New beginner

I have just install Ubuntu, I like it but my computer now feels like a virgin computer meaning that nothing is there except a barebones operating system. Is there a way I can access my old files from Microsoft Word and Excel? They are on another partition in my computer. I like the Libre products but I would like to also be able to access the old files.
    Thanks in advance,
    Arizonaben

If you are able to 'see' the Windows partition you should be able to access those files which reside there.

Microsoft Office files are easily 'read' by native 'LibreOffice' within Ubuntu.

Click on the "home" folder icon in the launcher and look for your windows drive on the left side.
It should sat ***GB file system.
You will know its windows because it will have folders called, Users, Windows, Program Files...etc.

If its XP your stuff is in Documents and Settings
Vista and 7, under the USER folder.

Hi arizonaben! I think you'll find that there's a lot more to your new Ubuntu install than a bare bones system. You didn't say which version of Ubuntu you installed, but if you do some exploring I think you'll be pleasantly surprised to find a lot of useful software already installed.

And, if you spend some time exploring the Ubuntu Software Center, you can find a lot more. It may take a while to discover all the useful things available on your new system, but exploring can be a lot of fun too.

Here's a good starting point for learning your way around:

And if you are using one of the recent versions with Unity, here's a starting place for learning about it:

And these forums are great for asking questions and getting help.

And last but not least, Welcome to Ubuntu Forums!
