    Ubuntu 11.10 32 bit or 64 Bit

    CPU : intel core i5 2.53 GHz
    RAM : 3 GBb

My work would be running vmware inside ubuntu and running like 3 VM's at a time.

    Which one should I install , 32 bit or 64 bit ?

Will 64 bit run slow on this much ram ?

I am also planning to increase RAM in near future.

Are you kidding? 3 GB is far from being much RAM these times. Anyways, you can go with both. 64 bit will probably use more RAM than 32 bit (at least on my machines). 64 bit can make better use from 64 bit architecture than 32 bit, which runs in a compatibility mode, so 64 bit is supposed to run faster than 32 bit. Beginning with the next Ubuntu release, 64 bit may become the default architecture.
Personally, I choose 64 bit when I install on a 64 bit hardware and 32 bit otherwise.

Why are you asking the same question in different posts?

He already answered your query on the other thread that you created.

Urgency for getting answer doesn't mean that you'll break forum rules. You may end up getting infraction for these things, if you continue to do so.

Re: Ubuntu 11.10 32 bit or 64 Bit

    Hay,

This has been under debate over and over and over and over again here on the forums...

    But I agree with 2F4U. Run 64bit software on 64bit H/W. And 32 on 32.

For virtualization I will suggest 64bit, it is somewhat faster on heavy processing for me... But that is only on 1 computer I have this experience with.

Running 3 VM's and a host OS on 3Gig ram is pretty much suicide. Not even win XP runs decently with 512mb ram:
(Assumming you give 3 x 512 = 1.5gig for VM's and that leaves 1.5 for the host OS which is a bit low, unless the only task it is going to perform is hosting the VM's)

So another suggestion, if possible, is boost this up to ATLEAST 4 or 6 gig ram so you can dedicate a decent amount of ram.

    Well good luck
    Cherz
Switched away from windows XP to Ubuntu 9.04. Never turned around to look back.
