    Sorry for the late response - didn't read anything after
    196.0.10.* where * can be any number between 1 and 255
    line. You probably realize this incorrect now.
    https://www.arin.net/knowledge/address_filters.html or the RFC has the specifics.

    10.0.0.0/8 IP addresses: 10.0.0.0 -- 10.255.255.255
    172.16.0.0/12 IP addresses: 172.16.0.0 -- 172.31.255.255
    192.168.0.0/16 IP addresses: 192.168.0.0 – 192.168.255.255

    Setting up a "server" can be as easy as during the install, choosing "LAMP" or "ssh" from the installation menu. Adding all the RAID stuff is good, but might scare "noobs" away.

    I like to add either fail2ban or denyhosts on any machine with internet access - good to quickly block unwanted ssh (and other) attempts, right?
