    11.10, 64-bit, Intel(R) Centrino(R) Ultimate-N 6300 AGN

Ever since I upgraded to 11.10, I've been having troubles connecting to my school's wireless network. It worked previously in 11.04. The computer is a Lenovo ThinkPad W510, and this issue spreads across multiple computers of this same make/model. The network card used is: Intel(R) Centrino(R) Ultimate-N 6300 AGN

Like many people I've seen, it continues to attempt connecting, but will eventually give up and ask for the username and password to connect. Eventually I get annoyed with this and just disable my wireless.

The school offers a root_certificate to use. I never needed it in 11.04 and before, and I tried it in 11.10 to no avail as well.

Information on the security can be found here:http://www.rose-hulman.edu/TSC/servi...configuration/

I've seen it may be driver issues, but I'm not sure how to fix that, so if there's a good link to that, I'd appreciate it.

This is a required computer at my school, so fixing this issue will actually fix it for at least 50 other students who are using linux for classes.

Let me know if you want other information posted.

    Thanks!

I have exactly the same problem with almost all public wifis.

    Thinkpad T410s with Intel Centrino Ultimate-N 6300 AGN, 64 bits, Ubuntu 11.10.

    Worked fine in Ubuntu 11.04...

Here is maybe a solution, but it did not work properly in my case.

Yeah, I I looked at that, but I couldn't seem to get it to work.

This problem is still open! Lots of kids here wondering how to get their wireless working!

    Thanks!

    Hi,

the N-mode of the driver is buggy, deactivate it via:

    Code:
echo "options iwlagn 11n_disable=1" | sudo tee /etc/modprobe.d/iwlagn.conf
    sudo modprobe -rfv iwlagn
    sudo modprobe -v iwlagn
if iwlagn instead of iwl4965 is the driver name. Firmware is up-to-date? You can also try to update the driver/firmware via:

    Code:
    sudo apt-get install --reinstall linux-headers-$(uname -r) build-essential
    wget http://www.orbit-lab.org/kernel/compat-wireless-2.6/compat-wireless-2.6.tar.bz2
    tar jxvf compat-wireless-2.6.tar.bz2
    cd compat-wireless-20*
    make
    sudo make install
    wget http://media.cdn.ubuntu-de.org/forum/attachments/2767012/Intel_Firmware.tar.gz
    sudo tar xvf Intel_Firmware.tar.gz -C /lib/firmware
    Reboot after that.

So is there really no way to make this work with the N-mode enabled? Cause lets be honest why would I ever want to go back to g. This is still an issue for 12.04

I agree; it's like if colors didn't work on the monitor the solution was to switch to black-and-white

I recommend you file a bug with the developers. Ubuntu/Canonical doesn't write the code. We would, however, like to see a fix as much as anyone. Some of us here also use the iwlwifi driver and not at N speeds.
