11.10 on Asus E45M1-M

For anyone else searching on 11.10 and E45M1-M

I've built a new machine with an Asus E45M1-M Pro motherboard (integrated AMD Radeon™ HD 6320 graphics) and installed Ubuntu 11.10.

Installation went fine but the proprietary drivers that are offered after installation do not work (installation results in the AMD Unsupported hardware "watermark" on the screen).

This thread http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1857911&page=6 says Catalyst 11.11 doesn't resolve (I haven't installed Synaptic or anything else yet, just gnome-shell) however I can't find the Ubuntu launchpad bug report referenced in this thread.

However, I don't have time for this nor the expertise to know when parts of it might be no longer current (see the discussion page).

Well, it does, up to a point.

Apart from this it's a fine board and I've now got the nearest thing to a silent desktop ever.

AMD fusion is not yet fully supported by Linux.

Seems that openelec daily build have got it to work. Is it possible to use this drivers to Ubuntu?

Hi, I am considering buying this board for a silent, low power home NAS/media centre.

Would any owners of the board be able to tell me if suspend/resume works for them? Has anyone tried out Wake on LAN, by any chance?

I can not wake up from suspent, by move any key or muse. Have not tested (wol) wake on lan, but I think that should work, because it is indepentent of OS (In BIOS/UEFI)

Hmmm, the lack of working sleep mode is a bit unfortunate :/ . Oh well, back to the drawing board...

I don't know if there are any work-around to resume from suspend, or just something I need to configure, but just hit the key-board or mice, doesent work. /Cheers

So... it only took 53 weeks.

I finally have faster graphics (even Firefox is noticeably faster)

I did a clean install of Ubuntu 12.10 AMD64 and updated it
Next, I installed Linux kernel 3.7 (instructions on upubuntu.com), then I installed Catalyst 12.12

The instructions here are wrong. You need to enter

sudo apt-get install fglrx

not fglrx-installer (the manual installation instructions above fail with a warning about a missing header file).

The software sources show

(*) Using Video driver for the AMD graphics accelerators from fglrx (proprietary)

but system settings indicates

Driver: VESA: WRESTLER
Experience Standard

However, the frames per second reported by glxgears

sudo apt-get install mesa-utils
glxgears

has jumped from 301 FPS to about 650. Qualitatively it feels more than that.
