    Debugging terrible battery life HP DV4-1225dx

    Hi all,

    I'm looking for advice to improve the terrible battery life on my HP DV4-1225dx. I'm running an up to date 11.10.

    There are a few problems with it:
    1) The battery only lasts about an hour on a full charge.
    2) Any time I unplug it, ubuntu thinks it's about to run out of battery and hibernates (once it wake it back up, it doesn't complain for ~ an hour).
    3) When unplugged, the `present rate` from /proc/acpi/battery/BAT0/state is always 0mA.
    4) Powertop doesn't appear to be working. The summary line (even after leaving it running for a few hours) is always:

    I've searched all over, but haven't gotten anywhere. Any advice will be greatly appreciated!

    There is a somewhat painful explanation about the general state of laptop battery efficiency here and from there are some links for battery settings. If you haven't already read this webpage you probably want to. In my limited experience with laptops running linux-there are no easy answers.
    Good site to search for guides & how-tos.

    I had an HP laptop with the same problem. Battery life was okay at first but the issue was that the battery was defective. Battery life was slightly better on Windows, but not by much (like 15 minutes more juice).

    Installing Jupiter you could have less problems with battery life:
