    High packet loss in local network

    Hi,

    I just installed Kubuntu 11.04 (64-bit) at work and realized Internet was a lot slower than in Windows. I ran ping to our router and the result was 46 % packet loss. In Windows it was 0 %.

    Some printouts:

    ifconfig -a:
    Code:
    eth0      Link encap:Ethernet  HWaddr 50:e5:49:37:ad:7a
              inet addr:195.178.71.129  Bcast:195.178.71.255  Mask:255.255.254.0
              inet6 addr: fe80::52e5:49ff:fe37:ad7a/64 Scope:Link

              inet addr:127.0.0.1  Mask:255.0.0.0
              inet6 addr: ::1/128 Scope:Host

    By the way weird thing is, that the connection icon in the lower right corner (showing ethernet connector) is empty (cable unplugged), but network connection works (though poorly). I entered my TCP/IP settings during the install process (I used alternate CD).

    Re: High packet loss in local network

    Hello

    It could be your MTU size,
    your ifconfig shows your using MTU of 1500

    try checking against windows, it may be 1492
    If it is try changing that and see if it improves things
    You cand do it temporarily by
    Code:
    sudo ifconfig eth0 mtu 1492
    and see if things get slightly better
    You can tell a man who boozes by the company he chooses, as the pig got up and slowly walked away.

    Re: High packet loss in local network

    Thanks. I'll try that as soon as I get to that computer, which will be on Monday.
