Thinkpad Edge E425 Live CD problems

Ok So with this laptop and using the live cd right now planning on installing Ubuntu 11.10 64-bit.

It detects everything almost perfectly right out of the box, good job ubuntu.

But there is one problem, It doesnt display on the laptops screen. I have to plug it into my 23 inch monitor to do anything.

Ubuntu detects the laptops screen, but it doesnt seem to be on or working

Any suggestions on what to do to get the screen to work?

Ok so i went ahead and installed Ubuntu and installed graphics drives and the laptops screen now works.

I'm thinking of buying the same Laptop, is it working fully and properly?

Could have been due to a BIOS settings, not Ubuntu Live CD itself. ThinkPad has a quite complex BIOS system, and related settings, you can force which display is on at startup trough the BIOS.

first, this laptop IS NOT the same quality as the T series. not even close to compare that to the T400 i have at work. It's flimsy and the keyboard is crappy.

I tried disabling all the switchable graphics on the BIOS and booted with plain old integrated graphics, and still, ubuntu fails to use the display.
