    Single application with virtualbox

Is it possible to launch a single application using Virtualbox similar to that of Windows XP Mode for Windows 7 Ultimate?

And possibly have a shortcut in ubuntu for it, so that I don't have to boot the whole guest OS to use an application.

They are called appliances -- http://www.turnkeylinux.org/all
Use whatever OS or desktop works for you. Dual boot or use VMs if you want. Backup your computer regularly, and definitely before upgrading, partitioning, or installing an OS.

No support requests by PM please.

Under VM View, tick Switch to Seamless Mode.

That will allow an application running on the VM desktop to look like it is running on the local host desktop.
