Unhappy No unity sidebar or top panel icons

    Hello all,

I just booted up Ubuntu this morning and unfortunately found that my desktop looks like the attached screenshot. The top panel seems to be all messed up - it's the menu for Nautilus, with none of the typical icons for wifi, battery manager, etc. But even worse is that my Unity sidebar no longer pops up! It's really tough to do work without these features operating properly...does anybody have any ideas about how to fix this or what could have gone wrong?

I'm running Ocelot, by the way.

Thanks so much for your time and help, I really appreciate it!

I've had this happen myself (when I was messing aroung with Compiz Config settings) and uses the steps in the link below to remove compiz and unity, clean up the remainder, and reinstall compiz and unity:

I tried the recommended "unity --reset" but all that did was hose up the display and make it unreadable.
    Ubuntu 20.04, Mint 19.10; MS Win10 Pro.
Will not respond to PM requests for support -- use the forums.
