    Music Stutters Across All Players

No matter what audio player I use, be it Amarok or Audacious, I get playback stuttering. I mainly notice this when I click on something within Firefox, because that's the application I have open the most.

IMO, Amarok's interface is cluttered and difficult to use, so I tried to go back to Banshee (after using it in GNOME). Unfortunately, if the GTK+ Appearance theme is set to oxygen-gtk, Banshee fails to load at all. If set to Raleigh, it loads, but doesn't work. So, I tried Audacious.

Now I find that, despite Audacious claiming to have a "small footprint," I still get stuttering. It's not as bad as Amarok's, but it's noticeable. It's less than Amarok's stuttering, at least.

EDIT: Amarok is the only music player on my system that works with my keyboard's media keys. Therefore, if somebody could help me stop Amarok from constantly and painfully stuttering when I click a link, load a page, or close/reopen a tab in Firefox, it'd be greatly appreciated!

Re: Music Stutters Across All Players

I just realized that it's Firefox; apparently GTK+ applications cause the stuttering. In rekonq, it's fine. However, I don't like being limited like this. I really enjoy Firefox (one of the main reasons being the ability to sync bookmarks using Xmarks or the built-in Firefox Sync. AFAIK, rekonq has no support for anything like this).

Does anybody know how to get GTK+ apps/Firefox to stop the stuttering?

sounds like a codecs prob or resource lag!

have a look at your sys monitor when this happens.

it is a resource lag because i have had the same problem with ubuntu and now i use lubuntu and the problem went away.
If Ubuntu had 31 flavors then we could call it Baskin' Ubuntu.

    *facepalm*

That would have been a good idea...
I can't try it out now, but perhaps later today I'll look at the System Monitor.

For now, here are my specs. I don't know how to view them in Kubuntu, so I'll just name 'em off by heart...

    • AMD Athlon 64 3200+ CPU
    • 2GB Corsair DDR2 RAM (667MHz or so) (max for mobo)
    • ATi Radeon HD 3650 (AGP)
    • Integrated/onboard 5.1 sound (via green, red/pink, and blue jacks)

Windows users might look at those specs and say, "Yikes!", but surely they're fine for Linux?
