Using Rhythmbox as an example, a rectangular notification box would appear when it moved onto the next song. However, it doesn't do that any more. I already tried going into Edit->Plugins->Status Icon and I set Notifications to "Show when the main window is hidden". However, nothing is displayed.
I have the same problem for Thunderbird. I have it set in Preferences to display an alert when I get an email. However, nothing shows up.
