    boot issue with ubuntu 11.10

I'm having a strange issue: ubuntu 11.10 does not boot normally when I turn on my computer.

When I press the power button to turn on my computer the BIOS screen turns up, then after a few seconds the monitor switches to standby, then about 10 seconds later the monitor switches on again and 10 seconds later it switches back to standby. This cycle keeps going on until I reboot the computer (monitor switches on and off every 10 seconds).

A USB stick with Ubuntu 11.04 on it boots just fine, and when I boot from that USB stick and than reboot my computer it boots Ubuntu 11.10 from the hard drive without any problem.

Somehow it seems that I need the 11.04 USB stick to "prime" the system for Ubuntu 11.10.

Any ideas how to solve this?

    Hardware specs:
    - AMD Athlon II X2 250 processor
    - 4 GB RAM (Adata DDR3 1333)
    - msi GF615M-P33 V2 mainboard
    - 640 GB SATA harddrive (brand: don't remember)

    Thanks in advance!

    I have the same problem
    Me I can connect to tty1 (ctrl-ALt-F1).
I change the Dislapy manager to gnome (gdm) to connect on tty7.
