When I tried out XUbuntu 11.10 here was my problem:
This also occurred when I checked out the Unity install of Ubuntu 11.10.
For those who are about to suggest pavuvolume control, this did not help at all. The same problem still existed.
I have since downgraded and I am using Ubuntu 10.10. I can use my mic just fine as you can see from this Live screenshot:
Someone had suggested this may be a Kernel issue or a distro issue so to keep using Ubuntu 10.10/11.04 until it is fixed. The question is, when do things like these usually get fixed?
