Why has Ubuntu 11.10 become a Mac clone?

Today I upgraded to 11.10, and to my disappointment it is not possible to opt for the old desktop with my beloved bar on the bottom where I can see my open windows. The worst thing is Alt+Tab: in that way you have to switch through ALL the open programs! What I loved of Ubuntu is the possibility to work in many desktops, and quickly switch between windows.
To top it off, the upper bar is not completely integrated.
I do not want a cheap version of a MAC!
    Let me know your opinion

Have you used a Mac before? Apart from the global menu, there's not much to compare.

OS X is great and works extremely well. It's also a great platform for web development/design due to some Mac-only programs. The UI is also very sleek and functional despite its really weird keyboard shortcuts (I have to Google "OS X take screenshot" every time).

The machines themselves are also well designed. Unfortunately, upgrading hardware is a pain.

I thought you were all about your signature.

Don't kid yourself Apple's products are top notch. They just have the most severe character flaws.

They work. I did not say they were top notch.

    Edit: nevermind, misread the post

Although I will say (in my experience) Mac's rarely breaks so is well built, and does have some great software, I have never found them functional. Maybe its because I just don't find them intuitive... I just cant get my head around the OS.

Mind you... I also cant enjoy Android or iOS. Maybe its my flaw rather than a Mac's.

My opinion is that you might find Xubuntu to your liking!

There is a large amount of documentation about the Unity interface on this forum and elsewhere.

GNU/Linux gives us choice, both of the method of installation and updating (distribution) and of the various components of our desktop. Other operating systems do not provide us with the choice.
