So lazy! I haven't upgraded from Hardy to a new release yet but am still getting Hardy updates via Synaptic! I thought they were stopping in May of this (2011) year, right? So have I installed a root kit, instead? Got one very big, multipart update around a week ago, via Synaptic, and now some tzdata update is on offer via Synaptic, too. Are these legit? I'm using Hardy desktop version, btw, not the server edition. Thanks! - Ami

Server-related packages will receive updates through April 2013. (Support for desktop-specific packages ended April 2011.) So you will continue to see updates to the core system, but not the desktop environment, web browser, office suite, etc.
About the tzdata package: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/tzdata tzdata: time zone and daylight-saving time data tzdata-java: time zone and daylight-saving time data for use by java runtimes
By the way, http://packages.ubuntu.com is a handy resource any time you have questions about an update. For example: http://packages.ubuntu.com/hardy-updates/tzdata If you click on "Changelog" you'll see this: tzdata (2011l~repack-0ubuntu0.8.04) hardy-proposed; urgency=low * New upstream release 2011l: (LP: #876090) - Fiji adopts DST for 2011 (effective Oct 23rd, 2011) - West Bank changes date for DST end in 2011 to Sep 30th -- Gary Lasker <gary.lasker@canonical.com> Mon, 17 Oct 2011 16:52:28 -0400
Thanks, Snowpine, for your very complete answer! And thanks, Ubupirate, for your help, too! Such lovely people here, always: Just ever so much nicer than any other tech site I've ever been on. Cheers! - Ami
