I can't get k9copy running (beta 1.1.0)
DVD Copy won't work, it says "dvdauthor error" after doing
libdvdread: Using libdvdcss version 1.2.5 for DVD access
---------
To make an mpg4 seems to work, but there is no file produced.
When I run k9copy from terminal I get:
I can play the DVD in k9copy, but thats itCode:libdvdnav: Unable to find map file '/home/abcdefg/.dvdnav/CATCH_ME_IF_YOU_CAN.map' libdvdnav: DVD disk reports itself with Region mask 0x00f50000. Any ideas?
I am also getting an error and can't open k9copy.
And then it just sits there forever. I end up having to restart the computer because I do it in sudo and it takes the root privilages, even after I've closed the shell.Code:X Error: BadDevice, invalid or uninitialized input device 166 Major opcode: 144 Minor opcode: 3 Resource id: 0x0 Failed to open device X Error: BadDevice, invalid or uninitialized input device 166 Major opcode: 144 Minor opcode: 3 Resource id: 0x0 Failed to open device k9copy: /dev/sr0 resolved to /dev/scd0 k9copy: /dev/scd0 is block device (0) k9copy: /dev/scd0 seems to be cdrom k9copy: bus: 1, id: 0, lun: 0 k9copy: (K3bDevice::Device) /dev/scd0: init() k9copy: (K3bDevice::Device) /dev/scd0 feature: CD Mastering k9copy: (K3bDevice::Device) /dev/scd0 feature: CD Track At Once k9copy: (K3bDevice::Device) /dev/scd0 feature: CD-RW Media Write Support k9copy: (K3bDevice::Device) /dev/scd0 feature: DVD+R k9copy: (K3bDevice::Device) /dev/scd0 feature: DVD+RW k9copy: (K3bDevice::Device) /dev/scd0 feature: DVD+R Double Layer k9copy: (K3bDevice::Device) /dev/scd0 feature: DVD-R/-RW Write k9copy: (K3bDevice::Device) /dev/scd0 feature: Rigid Restricted Overwrite k9copy: (K3bDevice::Device) /dev/scd0: dataLen: 60 k9copy: (K3bDevice::Device) /dev/scd0: checking for TAO k9copy: (K3bDevice::Device) /dev/scd0: checking for SAO k9copy: (K3bDevice::Device) /dev/scd0: checking for SAO_R96P k9copy: (K3bDevice::Device) /dev/scd0: checking for SAO_R96R k9copy: (K3bDevice::Device) /dev/scd0: checking for RAW_R16 k9copy: (K3bDevice::Device) /dev/scd0: checking for RAW_R96P k9copy: (K3bDevice::Device) /dev/scd0: checking for RAW_R96R k9copy: (K3bDevice::ScsiCommand) failed: k9copy: command: READ DVD STRUCTURE (ad) k9copy: errorcode: 38 k9copy: sense key: NO SENSE (2) k9copy: asc: 28 k9copy: ascq: 0 k9copy: (K3bDevice::Device) /dev/scd0: READ DVD STRUCTURE length det failed k9copy: (K3bDevice::Device) /dev/scd0: Number of supported write speeds via GET PERFORMANCE: 8 k9copy: (K3bDevice::Device) /dev/scd0 : 22160 KB/s k9copy: (K3bDevice::Device) /dev/scd0 : 16620 KB/s k9copy: (K3bDevice::Device) /dev/scd0 : 11080 KB/s k9copy: (K3bDevice::Device) /dev/scd0 : 8310 KB/s k9copy: (K3bDevice::Device) /dev/scd0 : 5540 KB/s k9copy: (K3bDevice::Device) /dev/scd0 : 3324 KB/s k9copy: (K3bDevice::Device) /dev/scd0 : 2770 KB/s k9copy: (K3bDevice::Device) /dev/scd0 : 1385 KB/s k9copy: (K3bDevice::DeviceManager) setting current write speed of device /dev/scd0 to 22160 k9copy: /dev/scd0 resolved to /dev/scd0 k9copy: /dev/scd0 is block device (0) k9copy: /dev/scd0 seems to be cdrom k9copy: (K3bDevice::DeviceManager) dev /dev/scd0 already found k9copy: /dev/hdc resolved to /dev/hdc
Installation was pretty straightforward, nice interface, seems to be running okay. I'll get back to you when I finish, but everything looks great so far!
So anyway, the real reason I wanted to post, other than being a jabberjaw, is that I noticed that problem with an extracted directory from an iso being larger than a target disk. I suppose there's a logical explanation... that's probably why I have no idea why it does that.
Thanks for the wiki/guide!!!
My hard drive started clicking, so I loaded up on a new one, and now the wiki you like to won't load up, and k9copy.sourceforge.net won't either.
I finally have k9copy working (very nicely). There are several issues to watch out for:
1. make sure that you have taken care of all dependencies. If you download a recent .deb from a site such as www.thepiratecove.org and install it with sudo dpkg -i <debname>.deb, there is no dependency checking.
2. ensure that the "output" directory under |Configure|DVD has at least twice as much free space as the total size of the titles you are trying to back up. Calling this directory an "output" directory is not a happy choice; it would have been more apt to call it a "scratch" directory or "working files" or, God forbid, "t(e)mp.
3. If the partition with /tmp does not have > 10GB free (mine doesn't), do not succumb to the temptation of using a FAT32 "transfer" partition. Remember the infamous 2GB file size limit.
k9copy is simple and easy to use and produces excellent results once it is properly installed and configured

I'm getting an error that says
dvdauthor error
Why?
BLTicklemonster,
Because I am an experienced user rather than a code monkey, I might have the explanation wrong, but it appears to work for me. Your mileage may vary.
After installing an application manually (this includes dpkg -i ... ), it has been my experience that the new application sometimes has trouble "finding" its dependencies. Running (as root) updatedb solves the problem.
This happened to me when I installed the k9copy 1.1 beta into Dapper. I got the same dvdauthor error as you and ran updatedb after which k9copy worked exactly as advertised.
Hope this helps
Bruce
Thanks. It's apparent that you're more of a monkey than I am, though. I have no idea how to implement what you suggest, unless it's to bring up terminal and ... um... could you draw this ape a picture?
*edit:
Oh, sudo updatedb

Okay, it's working! Thanks a ton! Now what would a person use to shrink that puppy down to 4 gig so I can "archive" it?
*edit
No wait, it looks like it's already doing that. Titleset 1 is 4.7 gig. Huh.
