How do I add the applications I use to the panel?

[since marking this as solved has eliminated the Xubuntu tag, I'm going to start by saying this is for the Xfce desktop enironment in Xubuntu. Thanks.]

    Particularly LibreOffice?

I've clicked on the settings to customize the panels, but they don't seem to enable it. I should have tried more things before choosing Xubuntu, but I took this function for granted,

Go to the Applications, find the app you want and then just drag it to the panel....

That is how they work in the "Classic" panel.

    Hope this helps

I tried that, but when I try to add, say, LibreOffice Writer, I get the massage "failed to execute default mail reader."

It tries to do "Send to"? That's weird.

I just dragged Abiword's icon to my panel no problem.

Where did you drag the icon from? Because, lacking an Applications folder, I tried to drag from the applications menu.

Drags no problem from my Applications Menu. Well, here's another thing you can try:

Run Accessories/Application Finder, then drag icons from that to the panel. Here's a weird bug, though: you may have to drag it off the panel then back to the panel. Make sure you get the mouse cursor with the + in it, then release the mouse button.

Are you running in Classic mode or Ubuntu or Customised...?????

I have switched to Classic, don't like the new structure, but I have found that the panes do not allow left or right click. Are you having the same issues?

    Xubuntu. So it's slightly different.
