I can see that its using 3/4 of the memory,that the problem imo there is no way that sitting at the desktop after a fresh boot should use 750mb of ram and 200mb of swap.


The hard drive capacity is a non-issue, she has less than 10gb of files, I should be able to install her system on a 40gb with no problems.

i think u should do a fresh install instead of upgrade.
this is a fresh install (root partition), I did keep the home partition from the last installation, do you think that getting rid of old user config would help? when shes not using the machine I'm gonna try making a new user to see if its just a problem brought forward in the users config.
