    Re: Ubuntu 11.10 no wireless

Confirmed that kernel 2.6.38.8 will bring iwlagn driver for intel cards in working order for time being in 11.10.
    http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v2.6.38.8-natty/

    ## Again this is not in all Intel cards with iwlagn driver just in some and have nothing confirmed as a
as to why only on select machines. But for now 2.6.38.8 does give connection until confirmed fix for 2.6.39 and 3.0 and up
    is found or fixed.
    Bugzilla report found.

Hi, I had the same problem three days ago, when I install xubuntu 11.10 my Dell laptop don't works with wirless connection.

As I am new with ubuntu, I don't know how to look for new hardware configuration (as in Windows), bu I connect my laptop directly to my router (lan cable) and it connects automatically to internet and, I supposse, it looks for the right driver. After that, my laptop works fine.

I hope my simple answer helps!

Hi pro.gangster, you should start your own thread, this one is for broadcom card issues.

    Also do what garvinrick4 suggested.
    Thank you

    Re: Ubuntu 11.10 no wireless

My terminal gets stuck at the Configuring ttf-mscorefonts-installer screen. I push enter, but nothing happens. I can't get past this point so I can't fix my wireless problem.

When I run sudo apt-get purge bcmwl-kernel-source broadcom-sta-common broadcom-sta-source is when it gets stuck. I disconnected the hard line, rebooted, but still no wireless.

    Re: Ubuntu 11.10 no wireless

Ok after a fresh install my wireless shows up, but says:

    Wireless Networks
    device not ready (firmware missing)

I know others have had the same issue, but I can't locate what the fix was for it. Any help would be appreciated.

    Re: Ubuntu 11.10 no wireless

I figured it out, I think.

    sudo apt-get install b43-fwcutter firmware-b43-installer

seemed to do the trick. Now all my Wireless networks show up and I can connect.

1 questions though: Should I add the additional driver for it, or will that mess it up again?

thank you kindly. Your "prescription" worked for me too.

I wish there would be a way for Ubuntu to have self diagnostic Ap to check itself for wireless, and correct it w/o user's involvement.

I'm on a Dell Inspiron 1720 with ubuntu 11.10 and this did work for me, Before that I installed the software recommended by the "additional drivers" app in ubuntu, but your fix worked I'm using my wifi now. Thank you Wildmanne
