It's ridiculous that they promised Gnome-Shell in this distribution and then we have this HUGE problem with what is probably the most common graphic driver.

I'm thinking of migrating to Fedora at the moment.
This is a problem with AMD's drivers. Canonical cannot fix this problem because the drivers are proprietary. You aren't forced to use the fglrx drivers. The open source gallium drivers work with gnome shell fine. Or you can manually install 11.9 and deal with the bugs.

Re: 11.10 Gnome Shell doesn't work properly

    This worked fine for me:
    "
    1. sudo /usr/share/ati/fglrx-uninstall.sh # (if it exists) edit: mine did not
    2. sudo apt-get remove --purge fglrx
    3. sudo apt-get remove --purge xserver-xorg-video-ati xserver-xorg- video-radeon
    4. sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg-video-ati
    5. sudo apt-get install --reinstall libgl1-mesa-glx libgl1-mesa-dri xserver-xorg-core
    6. sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg
After that, just restart your system and choose GNOME at login. Everything works perfectly and looks fantastic!
    "
Now I'm enjoying my 11.10 with Gnome 3, it is really nice, I hope it become the ubunteros support again and the nightmare with unity will close.

Re: 11.10 Gnome Shell doesn't work properly

    Everything went well. Two issues:

    1. The desktop will flash for a brief moment. Is this a driver issue or a Gnome Shell issue?

    2. Everytime I log in to Gnome, an alert that my external hard drive is attached pops up on the bottom center of my desktop and it is really annoying. Anyway to turn it off?

    Thanks for all the help.

Providing that you are on 11.10, installing gnome shell will not affect unity. You will be able to choose between them at the login screen.

Re: 11.10 Gnome Shell doesn't work properly

I installed the latest ati driver 11.11.
Everything works fine except when I start some applications,
such as ibus, the message tray will make my screen glitch or when I press the windows key
    the screen will glitch too.
I enable the tear-free options, but just make it a little better. The glitch still exist.
Is there any solution to this problem??
P.S sorry for my poor English.

Unfortunately, there is no fix. The bugs are still being worked out, so you'll have to deal with it for now. When 11.12 is released next month their should be some major improvements.
