Cannot install Ubuntu 11.10 alongside Windows 7 (64-bit).

I am trying to install Ubuntu 11.10 on my machine alongside Windows 7 64-bit. The installation seems to go as normal, however, towards the end when the installer runs Grub installation, I get the error message Executing 'grub-install /dev/sda' failed. This is a fatal error. I get this same error message while trying to install other versions of Ubuntu so it is not version specific. I am also running RAID with two hard drives which shouldn't matter, as I have had Ubuntu 11.04 installed on this same machine before. Another thing that is strange is that both Windows 7 and Ubuntu show up in the boot menu, and upon selecting Ubuntu, I am taken to a screen the folowing screen (refer to attached photo).

    What could be the problem?
