    Is RSS dying?

I've been using RSS since the twentieth century but I'm seeing signs that it's dying a slow death. First Firefox drops the live RSS icon from their "awesome bar" and now Google has removed the Reader link from the GMail page. Arguments are that no one uses it. Well, I use it. Anyone here use it?

I'm not sure if the Downcast podcasting iOS app uses RSS or not, but whether I use it often or rarely depends on that.

    RSS is amazing.

Easily one of the better ways to stay on top of your interests.
Life is an extraordinarily long concatenation of luck and coincidence.

Good question. I use it for podcasts in Rhythmbox and Banshee but using RSS for reading news has never appealed to me. Like the idea behind it and some practical applications of it but just not for my own daily computer usage.

I agree. I'm concerned that with both Firefox and Google dialing back their support, that use will continue to slide. I guess I'll have to join Facebook like all the cool kids.

I still use it, but I tend to be much more selective about what I add now than I used to be since I find so much using Google+, twitter, etc.

I can't imagine how I'd keep up with everything without RSS.

I'm tired of trying to keep up with "everything". So no, I don't care about rss anymore.

Google News and a few other aggregators (reddit!) make RSS boring!

    Re: Is RSS dying?

I think that the stuff that's replacing rss (twitter for instance) are not nearly as good as rss in delivering updated contents.

Yahoo News, before their recent revamping, had one of the best news portals I've seen (better than Google news, IMHO), and yet with a news aggregator and 20 or so sources you could find news on anything, ultra-fast (just typing in the search box), without the crud of Twitter or Google News.

Twitter in terms of social gauging, in terms of horse's mouth stuff and in terms of breaking news, is probably irreplaceable, but this is its own niche. For getting news, rss is to me the best way to go.

Still, It probably is dropping in popularity, from what I've seen, but I don't see it dying, since news sites will most likely continue to use it and it will always be your choice to use it or not. Pity.
