When I installed 11.9 from amd download (the .run thing) thing went way wrong. I`m sure that with fglrx-updates they will release an update for 11.9 and later when it will be sufficiently tested.

If you just want to go to open-source drivers, then
install synaptic and remove any fglrx package installed.

There should be two packages installed:
1) fglrx and
2) fglrx-amdcccle
or their *-updates counterparts if you got them installed,
Finally your system should fall back to the kernel provided open-source driver.

Not so lucky here. I tried both through Jockey, Software center and Synaptic. I can get it uninstalled allright, and when i login after reboot, dragging windows around the desktop again looks good, but i lost the unity launcher.
What to do?
I wonder if it is a HD6320 bug?

No. What's happening here is that the desktop is trying to load the fglrx driver, which it fails to do because it isn't installed, which causes Unity to fail, and then the open source radeon driver is loaded, which is why the desktop looks good. (albeit lacking unity) In order to restore the original driver and have a working unity, follow my instructions in this post

I've just installed Xubuntu 11.10 64bit and I got 2 options available too (the standard 'fglrx' and the 'fglrx post-release'). What should I do if I want my graphic card to give the best performance? Wait for newer fglrx release and keep the open-source driver for now?

Thanks! it worked out just fine, the lag was killing me.
Are there anything i can do about the black flickering that happens every now and the then?

I could not get the "post-release" installed.
You can try installing the standard 'fglrx', and just remove it again if you don't like it, using the guide Cynical gave the link to.
In normal desktop environment i think the open-source driver works out the best. But it got some strange black flickering going on.
I am not sure, but maybe AMD's driver are faster for full screen video, but it could be a random observation.

I will wait for now and test 11.9 when it is adapted or tuned to Ubuntu if that is what needs to be done.

Hi again.
I have now been running the open-source driver for some hours, and the hole computer works a lot faster than it did with the AMD proprietary driver. -I only use it on Ubuntu 11.10, not Xubuntu, if it makes difference?

Do you also experience that black flickering?
I can provoke it by banging a window, (browser or anything) into the sides of the desktop repeatedly.

There is a bug with the AMD catalyst Driver 11.9. I already contacted AMD. Hopefully this will help you. Its a little bit of a hack.
