Re: How to: Broadcom Wireless cards

I've got a BT Voyager 1065 PCMCIA card, and the guide worked brilliantly.

Interestingly, I was able to skip several steps:

Step two wasn't required, as running "sudo apt-get install bcm43xx-fwcutter" offered to download the driver for me.

Subsequent steps could also be skipped - fwcutter seemed to install all the drivers in the right place for me anyway.

With that done, I ran "sudo apt-get install network-manager-gnome" and the card's lights came on!

The last step was to select which network to join using the icon at the top right, and all was good.

I'm running FF Herd 5 - the official release wouldn't even boot on my laptop.

Awesome guide, and thanks to you I'm now reading to have a play with Ubuntu.

    Code:
    sudo apt-get install bcm43xx-fwcutter

When I try this step I get the error "Couldn't find package bcm43xx-fwcutter"

Any thoughts? I'm trying to do this on Edgy. Thanks!

Re: How to: Broadcom Wireless cards

Thanks for this how to. I thought it was not working as I could see some wireless network once and then nothing. I did again some of the steps of the how to , mainly copying the driver files in the upgraded kernel folder.

Now, I can see from time to time one or another of the wireless network of neighbors, but mine has never been detected!

It seems there is a problem with the detection. As I am writing this thread, there are no more wireless network available at ll, which is most of the time the case.

My 3Com wireless modem/router is just next to this laptop "compaq nx6325", and 4 others computers are wirelessly connected to this network (including 2 ubuntus), all of them being much further to the modem than this laptop.

The broadcom card in this laptop is the bcm4310.

I prepare it for a friend, and kept her laptop for few days now, trying to sort out this wireless issue.
Should I consider trying the driver of broadcom? If so, how do I remove the files already installed?

    Any help/suggestion very much appreciated.

This set up works to a point. I see the networks around me. I can tag the DHCP server. But I don't recieve DHCP offers. My card read out from the lspci -vv command is
