    Version choice for netbook

    Hi everyone.
I want to install Ubuntu on my netbook (HP Mini 110 ST).
Which version would be better? You all know that this is not a fast computing machine.

I read the wiki page, I know there are some errors and they can be fixed. I'm just looking for opinions, comments.

    Hi

Not the same machine, but 11.04 Ubuntu Natty 32 bit runs fine on my Atom N570 Asus 1011PX (1GB ram) Try it - if no good perhaps try lubuntu or xubuntu which should run faster. For FAST performance try puppy linux - but its not quite as polished and runs as root all the time (less secure)

I have installed Ubuntu on my netbook.
Up to now, it runs good but I can't play videos on internet smoothly, there is a problem with graphic card or its driver.

I have tried several and settled on Lucid Lynx netbook addition. I removed the things I did not need and stopped any service I did not want running. I have 2 gig RAM in mine and it runs fine.

I use it when I travel on my motorcycle as it fits in my pack very nicely. I have not had any troubles with wifi at coffee shops or hotels and I can load pictures on it from my phone or camera.

I also use gimp occasionally for editing photos and scaling images to email to friends and family.

All in all it is a usable system without (at least so far) any show stopping faults.

I have used the mozillateampa to update firefox, but otherwise it is vanilla 10.04

You should have no problems with this system.

    Lubuntu, Xubuntu

I would go with something lighter like Lubuntu on the netbook. If a heavier DE is needed, then Xubuntu would be another good choice because it is nice and fast.

Which integrated graphics does your netbook have? The GMA 500 is particularly troublesome.

It's GMA 950. It could be about plugins also. I'm not sure.

Edit: It's fine on Youtube, but not all the other sites. I tried to install some plugins but some videos stream slowly.

I use WATT OS on my netbook. It is a lightweight distro based on Ubuntu core. It will pretty much chew up anything I throw at it... Videos with a really high bit rate will bog it down a little though... In such instances I choose a lower bandwidth video to watch online.

be warned there is no open gl support in ubuntu for the 950. As for which version to use...I can run any version fine (though Kubuntu is a bit slow to load) but if youre looking to conserve system resources the Lubuntu would be your first option followed by Xubuntu.

Most 'buntus are unduly heavy for netbooks these days so I would use mint debian edition (xfce), crunchbang (openbox), peppermint (lxde) or straight up debian.
