GRUB2 Problems

I have a Transcend 16G flash that will boot when I install start up disk bootloader but will not boot with GRUB2 when I have installed UBUNTU 11.10 on the drive however, the falsh drive boots ok in my netbook from either bootloader or GRUB, can anyone help me get this sorted?

Where does the boot fail? Does BIOS let you boot flash drive.

If you hold shift key from BIOS do you get grub menu? Then it may be video issues. I have nVidia and always have to add nomodeset on first boot until I install the nVidia drivers.
