Can I replace the Evolution e-mail client completely with Thunderbird? I know that Ubuntu uses the Evolution calender, but I'd much rather use the Lightening extension as my default calender. Is this possible? Thanks.

I'm not sure if you can do this right now, but Thunderbird is scheduled to replace Evolution in the next Ubuntu 11.10 release in October. Yay!

There was another thread on here today about this. Yes you can run Thunderbird and lightning.

Thanks for the link, but what I'm looking for is a way to get the Lightning app to run at start-up. As it is Lightning only runs when Thunderbird is up. Can I get Thunderbird to run in the system tray?
Anyone?
Does this help?

Ok, Sunbird is the standalone Lightning calender, so you can run that (without Thunderbird) at start up if you wish. Also you might want to set them as the default email/calender applications (you can do that in the system preferences somewhere).

You can set that up in system preferences somewhere also. Not sure where though, haven't used GNOME in a while.
