I was thinking of gettng a new laptop with Ubuntu installed from the factory so I can save money buy not having to have Windows bundled in with it. I thought Dell would, but nope. they no longer bundle Ubuntu as an option. Are there any venders who supply the UK who offer Ubuntu over Windows?

Google might help that too, did that for USA suppliers. I know of two places but only sure of one that will ship to you. System 76 will ship in the UK but not sure if AVA Direct can or not, try their website to see. I hope this helps somewhat.

kyral210: It is logical to hope you could avoid paying the "Windows tax" by buying a laptop with Ubuntu, rather than Windows, preinstalled.
However, you may find you can get a good, or even better, deal by buying a laptop with an old version of Windows preinstalled.
For example, I recently bought a brand new ACER ASPIRE D260A netbook for just £160. This came with Windows XP, which I immediately replaced with Crunchbang Linux and now it runs like a dream.

It'd be cheaper to buy a desktop/laptop with Windows, then wipe and install ubuntu.

Yeah, starting to think that. It just seems crazy that it isnt possible to buy a cheap Ubuntu computer easily. Why did Dell dop Ubuntu? Was is Microsoft putting preassure on them?
