Question Ubuntu 10.04 lts install problem

I can't seem to find the solution to my problem. I am new to Ubuntu, but I really want it on my laptop. Here is what I have:

    HP Pavillion DV6605us
    1.8 GHz AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core Mobile Technology TK-55
    3072 MB DDR2 RAM
160 GB (5400 RPM) (SATA) HDD
    NVIDIA GeForce Go 7150M / nForce 630M

Every time I try to install Ubuntu. This is what my screen looks like. I am new and have absolutely no clue how to possibly fix this. I really want Ubuntu on this laptop. Can anyone help me?

Here is a link to what my screen looks like.

Why dont you try to install 11.04 Natty Narwhal? Download the newest Live CD and burn and see if that fixes your issue. Or ist there a particulat reason why you want to install 10.04?

    Hey there,

I have a system quite similar to yours, and have installed Ubuntu 10.04 and been using it for about a year now; I think your problems are not necessarily due to insufficient specs.

Looking at your screenshot, I GUESS it could be something with your screen settings; is there a way you can manage things using a command line before using the GUI?

Your computer does seem fine in terms of requirements, there's no reason why this shouldn't work.

Having said the above, I have read in other places that there are issues with nVidia drivers for Ubuntu ...

Is your computer 32 bit or 64 bit? Make sure you have downloaded the right version of ubuntu.

10.04 is probably better for the system you have.
    Thank you

wildmanne39 your advice worked great. Sorry it took a while to post, but I appreciate your's and everyone's help.

I ended up putting Ubuntu on my laptop and it's awesome.

Too bad I still need Windows to run certain things or I could see myself ditching Windows for Ubuntu.

    Thanks again EVERYONE!!
