    HTPC build

    Hey all,

I'm trying to decide between quad core or dual for my htpc build. I'm looking for full hd video playback.

Here is my case I'll be using w/ 275w psu:

    Dual core which looks promising:

Quad which I'm wondering if it'd be the best option:

I plan to use the onboard video with hdmi connection from either board.
any input would be a great help, its been a VERY LONG TIME since I've had a new build in progress.

    Cheers

I would recommend the ASUS dual-core. It seems to be a newer processor (correct me if I'm wrong, but the Fusion line is newer than the Athlon?).

Also, you probably don't need that much processing power in your HTPC. Just a good graphics card.

I guess that my largest concern is if the processor clocked at 1.6 x 2 is enough for the 1080p processing.

To be safe I would probably go with the quad core. Especially since I'm not sure if any of the video players for linux will support nVidia CUDA or ATI stream to take the load off of the processor.
