Install packages on older (possibly unsupported version of Ubuntu)

I recently pulled out my old laptop I haven't used in a while and it has an Ubuntu installation I would like to retire. I think it has Ubuntu 9.04.

Before I wipe it I wanna pull off my settings and files, I want to install an SSH server but when I do so it doesn't work because I think the repositories are down.

How can I install SSHD on this machine?

You can still try to compile it from source. But it might be a nightmare if you don't already have the necessary dependencies. (besides basic compiling tools, I have no Idea what they are).
Or you could use a livecd with a sshd on it if it is just temporary. Not sure ubuntu has it, but there must be a linux distribution with it.

    Hope it helps.
