Question posible to top copying to /var before playing?

Using Kubuntu 11.04, I have all of my movies and music on a NAS, everytime I wish to play something (I have a computer hooked up to my tv this is how I play all media) KDE decides it needs to copy it to a tmp file first, I was unable to find a setting to turn this off and allow the file to simply play straight from the network drive as it did in M$ Windblows probably a dumb question and I am simply looking over something but if anyone could help I would greatly appreciate it

    Thanks in advance
