I am dual-booting right now using rEFIt; is there a better way? Sometimes rEFIt takes forever, which is not desirable.

dfacto, my MBA is at home, so I can check gptsync after work.

Great thanks berto-. Yeah mine is painfully slow at times too. It takes 8-9 seconds for the firmware to kick-in the legacy bios layer (ie white tux for 8-9 sec then grub loads). Only option is pure EFI and I guess none of us are brave enough to try it. After all, we only just got this up and running.

Webcam now working too. I added a FaceTime section to post-install.sh.

    Anything else left to do?

    Wow, that's awesome, dfacto!

I'll soon find out myself, but how good is the trackpad integration. Does it provide vertical and horizontal scrolling?

    Yes and yes.

HOWEVER, it definitely needs some tweaking. Its hard to explain...it responds to the thumb differently than I expect. You'll see.

I think we can just about close the book on get the MBA up and running. Now it remains to see how annoying it will be to maintain our various hacks. In any event things look great!

Oops--seems that something changed between yesterday and today because now suspend doesn't work. Feel free to explore it but I'm chalking this up to Oneiric being beta.

Does it make sense to create a PPA on launchpad specifically for the MBA?

    Nah, I don't think so. Here's the break-down:

Modified with patch submitted to kernel.org:
    - bcm5974-dkms
    - hid-apple-dkms

Modified but patch not submitted to kernel.org:
    - btusb-dkms

Mactel doesn't have a Oneiric build and was necessary to modify for 3.0+ headers. This package is only needed when using dkms (above) so we won't need it once the patches start trickling down.
    - hid-dkms

    Regularly built by someone:
    - xserver-xorg-input-mtrack

    Using kernel version:
    - applesmc

    Not needed at all:
    - snd-hda-dkms
    - mbp-nvidia-bl-dkms

    Mactel:
    - xf86-input-multitouch
    - isight-firmware-tools
    - macfanctld

So, basically we only need to build 3+1 packages. When two of those kick-in, then the fourth is not needed. Someone should get btusb in--I haven't had time. Everything else is Mactel ppa. Also, everyone should be aware that using these dkms's is BAD because its stale code. The kernel has new code, but I am still using the dkms's because its easier to get going and help other people. (Although the i915 fix kind of defeated my plan since I wanted to avoid this kind of a revuild-the-kernel-hack. Note: dkms's auto rebuild upon new kernel install.)

So the conclusion is that really all I did was to collect all the relevant info in one place. The best thing now is to either update the wiki or simply wait until all these packages go away then update the wiki. Probably both are best.

Oh, and suspend works if you make the call directly, ie,
    Code:
    sudo /etc/acpi/sleep.sh
Dunno why it doesn't work from dash.

I ran apt-get update && apt-get upgrade on my oneric install and after a reboot I was unable to get on the network and everything was super funky. If I'm not able to get it on the network I'll likely have to start from scratch again.

In any case, I wasn't able to run gptsync, but will do so once I have a working system again.
