I was just curious, but I'd like to know if someone could program it to where the desktop wallpaper was a working terminal, behind icons, windows, and the Launcher (11.04). No rush, just wondered if it was possible. Thought it would look cool.
CPU: AMD FX 8120 8-Core Black Edition OC'd to 4.3GHz | Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3 | Graphics: Twin Radeon 7870's | Memory: 16GB G.SKILL Ripjaw Series DDR3 1600
Or maybe any interactive background.
It's an interesting idea, but you certainly wouldn't be able to use icons as they are managed by Nautilus. See this post to do it: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=202249

I remember doing this on an old build of Ubuntu. That said, it was using Openbox, where the desktop icons were irrelevant. Also, I would suggest reducing the size of your background terminal to a specified spot (not the whole screen). Just some suggestions since I used to have this setup. Goodluck!
