Only one instance of a package manager (Software Center, Synaptic, or apt-get) can be running at any given time.

you can only have one process downloading/installing/updating at a time, just wait until the first process finish to put the second one.

you can also tell apt-get to install multiple files at once as follows
    Code:
     sudo apt-get install app1 app2 app3 ...
if your not currently installing/updating anything and you still get that error, try rebooting the pc.

yes, wait until it finishes installing. software center uses apt-get to install the software.
