Setting up alsa mixer

Hello.

My speaker does not work very well. It is very quiet when I can hear it at all and it is crackly if I try to make it louder.

I have changed the settings a lot to try to see what has to be done. A picture of the settings is attached.

Does anybody know how it has to be set, or what additional information you need to have?

I reinstalled 11.04 and the defaults for the sound are not good.

I installed 10.10 and it was a lot better. I upgraded from that and it was better for a while, but it has stopped again. It's crackly when it's audible and it's hard to make audible.

I am using an Acer Aspire 5742G.
