Re: Change filesystem from RAW to NTFS?
Testdisk is used to recover filesystems that have been lost, but the fact that Linux recognizes it suggests that the problem is something else. I recommend getting more information by issuing the following commands from Linux with the drive plugged in and mounted:
Code:
sudo fdisk -lu /dev/sdb
sudo blkid /dev/sdb*
df -h
This assumes the disk is the second one (/dev/sdb); it could be /dev/sdc, /dev/sdd, or even higher if the computer has more than one internal disk or if other external disks are plugged in.
Post the results here, between [code] and [/code] tags to preserve legibility.
It's possible that the partition table is damaged, in which case the fdisk output may provide clues. The blkid output will provide minimal information on filesystem(s) on the disk, and the df output will report what partition(s) have been mounted. My suspicion, though, is that there's been some subtle filesystem damage, not partition table damage. In that case, Windows tools will be the ultimate key to recovery. Getting the basic information from these initial diagnostic commands is the start of finding a solution, though.
If I've suggested a solution to a problem and you're not the original poster, do not try my solution! Problems can seem similar but be different, and a good solution to one problem can make another worse. Post a new thread with your problem details.
