    Mysterious Choppy Audio

    Hey folks,

    I am running Maverick (amd64) and as of this morning, my music seems to stutter regardless if I play with Rhythmbox or mplayer, and the same via pulse or alsa backends. The only updated packages I've pulled are for typesetting and firefox.

    I noticed this happening as of this morning, but it may have started a little earlier without me noticing and just assuming it was just because the CPU was saturated with the work I was doing.

    Two things you can try (from: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php...s_or_crackling)

    1. In /etc/pulse/default.pa change:

    load-module module-udev-detect
    to read:

    load-module module-udev-detect tsched=0
    then restart pulseaudio

    pulseaudio -k
    2. In /etc/pulse/daemon.conf change:

    Hey Toz. For some random reason, my audio seems to be normal again. If it reverts back to the choppy state I previously described, I'll be sure to try your solution.

    Hey Toz. So the choppiness kept persisting and I ended up making the changes you suggested. I killed pulse and restarted it, along with Rhythmbox, and the audio is still choppy =(

    Try resetting your pulseaudio settings.

    rm -r ~/.pulse ~/.asound* ~/.pulse-cookie 
    sudo rm /etc/asound.conf
    If you get any errors about missing files or directories, ignore them.

    Then reboot.

    A couple of things to try:

    1a. /etc/pulse/default.pa - add back the tsched=0 to the lines load-module module-udev-detect and load-module module-detect

    1b. /etc/pulse/daemon.conf change the two realtime lines to read:

    1c. Reboot

    If the above doesn't work, then undo the changes then:
    2. /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf - add to the end of the file
