I am having Wifi troubles with a new Ubuntu 11.04 installation.
It is a dual boot PC, and the same Hercules wifi dongle works perfectly with Windows XP, and reports a strong wireless signal. I use an old WEP security, it's always been enough.
The Wifi worked when I set up 11.04, and I downloaded some fixes. Today it will not work.
It keeps asking repeatedly for "Authentication Required by wireless network" even though this has been saved. I re-enter the code manually, and the process repeats again after about 1 minute. After about 3 attempts, it stops and says "disconnected".
But it's not HW, since Win XP goes on working.
What sort of problem can I be looking for? A driver issue? Strange that it should work yesterday. Maybe a fix was downloaded that caused a driver problem?
I have 2 other 11.04 PCs here. Can I download a driver manually and move it to the wifi-failing PC?
My level is a bit above beginner, but I can get lost easily if your advice is too technical.
