    Question gNewSense speedtouch

I am looking to move from Ubuntu to a totally free distro, and because gNewSense is based on Debian which I am most familiar with, naturally, that is my first stop.
My question to you is will the following guide work with gNewSense as it does with Ubuntu? Will I need to install any other software beforehand to make it work?

Quick caveat I don't use or have this speedtouch modem. That being said it looks like this driver should be included in recent kernels. I would just boot a live gnewsense, Trisquel, or Debian cd and see if a libre kernel has the driver. I would think the driver would be present as it appears to be GPL'd firmware.

Debian is totally free, why not use that?

Which would be the easier of the two for installation and use?

This was what I was going to reply until I read down.

You can find Debian downloads here. You only need CD1 of any collection to install.

Use the link in my signature to find downloads of Debian live dvd/usb. I recommend you start with Gnome as the other desktops (kde, lxde) you need to apt-get install synaptic to have a gui package manager (which is easy).

Debian is the main distribution I recommend to all users. Contrary to rumour it is not hard to use.
