Re: malware installed onto my pc

Ha, thanks! But, I am no security expert. I just followed advice on this forum in the sticky notes. I don't know much about getting it set up though. I need to verify that I have everything set up correctly for these utilities. That is what I will be checking with my latest reinstall of Ubuntu.
That's the best way to act, reading the sublime security stickies.
Where do you get the idea on this forum to use SElinux on ubuntu?
I am also very interested in security related matters.

I would assume that as you are using Ubuntu you are using apparmor and not selinux.

IMO you should secure your browse with NoScript + an apparmor profile.

The other tools you list are of limited, if any, utility, IMO.
There are two mistakes one can make along the road to truth...not going all the way, and not starting.

Also, as noted above, I don't have the image anymore. I wiped the system clean already. I don't like messing around. I store my files elsewhere like photos and web work, so wiping the system is not a big deal for me.

I HATE hackers. I am not giving them the benefit of anything off my system if I can help it. The problem is that with recent Facebook hacks, Playstation network going down, I have had my email used as a spam relay recently, etc., I see a scary pattern in which there are so many vulnerabilities that it is hard to keep up on. We do not do 'shady' things like look at porn, visit gambling sites, download illegal music through shareware sites, use torrents sites for movies, etc. We are basic internet browsers. I do some web work. That is it. But, still, I have issues. I am in IT and know SOME about how to prevent some of these items. I do not claim to be an expert. But, I am getting sick of hackers. I wish I could take them all down.

The second problem is that hackers do not get punished. Cause other people harm and get no slap on the wrist. It's a scary pattern developing and I believe it is only going to get worse.
I get the feeling you see hackers everywhere, even when they aren't there.

I think the OP may be a little paranoid. http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1776726 I doubt you were in any danger, and wiping your install was probably excessive. Without seeing the picture/code in question, it is impossible to say. The bottom line is that there is no way to completely lock down any OS if you are connected to the internet.

I pulled the trojan MS Removal Tool off a windows machine this weekend, got it saved and still haven't got around to disassembling it(I would have to learn assembly code anyways, lol!). The version I have won't run on Ubuntu. The one that runs in the browser I am having a hard time finding it. I almost had it, but it is a slippery fellow.

Don't give them the honor of using the word hacker, especially without a white gray or black prefix.
Life is an extraordinarily long concatenation of luck and coincidence.

Thanks for all the info. I have noscript and apparmor installed. Ya, I'm a little paranoid. But, everyone should be a little or you are kidding yourself ( See Sony Playstation Network, CitiBank, Facebook, etc )
