Shopping Fo' Ubuntu Compatible Graphics Card

I am looking for a hardware recommendation, somthing not allowed on Ubuntu Stack Exchange. Just loaded up some of my old Humble Bundle games after a long break. VVVVVV plays OK but Bit Trip Runner struggles with integrated Intel GMA950 graphics chip. The jump is unresponsive & delayed, does this sound like a struggling card? If so, can someone recommend a low/mid range card they have tested? I will never be a high frame rate gamer, just like the odd indie title. Were talking second hand, eBay if possible.

Saw Chris & Angela's head to head battle on the Faux Show & thought I'd load up again! I cannot buy Bit Trip 2 without finishing the original now!

A GTS450 or GTX460 sounds ideal to me here. You can probably get one for $50 if you like to play the ebay game...

Thx for your recommendation! I will look into it. Bit Trip Runner will not even launch under Win 7. Plain sluggish in Ubuntu & no launch with Win 7, so I'm thinking a driver issue maybe both Ubuntu & Windows? A card may well solve both issues.

The game requires shader model 3 and GMA950 simply does not support it. Using different driver/OS will not magically upgrade the silicon (though it would be nice...).

Will Ubuntu detect card & offer to install propriety drivers or will open source driver be sufficient?

Any tips on getting my Nvidia 210 to comply and render GRUB & splash in some fashion of order?!? Tried this but it did not help.
