    Re: HOWTO: VinDSL Conky Script

    Installed Xubuntu 20.04 myself a few days ago and am not able to get the same conkys going that I have on 9 other systems.

    I was able to get the generic black conky going, so there's that. But, it's a mystery to me so far.

    Well - I just installed Xubuntu 20.04, and I've had mixed results so far. The conky that was posted above appears to work - but I haven't tried most of mine yet I'll get back to you on that...

    @mesilikas - Sir, are you a time traveler ?? - well it is a rather crappy time to come in - the whole planet is in a weird state of lock down ( quarantine in simplese ) - all because of a virus - corona - and it is NOT the beer !!!

    lol - been holed up for over a month - what do you expect huahahahahahaha...

    You should use the newer version of conky - it is fine till 1.11.3 - it is really much faster than the 1.9 branch. I simply do not have the bandwidth to support conky version 1.9 or Linux on 32 bit - But - I have left the 1.9 config files in the release - these are for you to tinker with if you have the old version.

    OK - can you try doing this - in the terminal window type: conkywx - you will get a menu - choose option 4 - it will generate a DEBUG file - if you can attach that - we can look see.

    cheers

    Time travelers.

    I figured out what it takes to get a Conkywx display on Xubuntu 20.04.

    The 3 blue lines. 40 in value gives some shade; 0 for the surface image conky and the clock conky works.
    Code:
        own_window_type = 'normal',
        -------------------------------------------------------------
        -- uncomment below hints line if not using override
        -------------------------------------------------------------
        own_window_hints = 'below,sticky,undecorated,skip_taskbar,skip_pager',

        own_window_class = 'Conky',
        own_window = true,
        --own_window_transparent = true,
        -- if own_window_transparent is set to true then this value is irrelevant else can be set to anything 0 to 255
        own_window_argb_visual = true,
        own_window_argb_value = 40,

    It's not perfect but, getting it to display on the screen is a small step forward I think.

    The traveller
    Thank you my friends for the interest after many efforts and problems that I could not stand in the new kubuntu 20.04 I downgraded with a new clean installation in Ubuntu / Cinnamon 18.04 and of course in conky 1.9 and ConkyWX 5.0.0-1 where I have no problems with fonts !!!
    Best Regards from Greece

    Thank you. I got Fedora 32 installed and after putting off using conky version 1.11.5_pre thinking it would never work, I installed Conkywx and it did work.

    That's pretty amazing! You're using Conkywx 5.0 too and it looks fantastic.

    There are conversion scripts out there to convert conky 1.9 rc files into 1.10. It is impossible to do it yourself.
    Param gave us a script to convert it back when it changed.
    Here is the code to make the script with in case anyone is interested: https://github.com/brndnmtthws/conky...as/convert.lua

    Re: HOWTO: VinDSL Conky Script

    Something is odd about conky versions. I thought that 1.11.4 and above did not work.
    Yet I am on Fedora 32 and it works just fine with Conkywx installed
    Code:
    $ dnf info conky
    Last metadata expiration check: 0:00:01 ago on Tue 12 May 2020 02:38:02 PM EDT.
    Installed Packages
    Name         : conky
    Version      : 1.11.5
    Release      : 3.fc32
    Architecture : x86_64
    Size         : 1.5 M
    Source       : conky-1.11.5-3.fc32.src.rpm

    Description : A system monitor for X originally based on the torsmo code. but more kickass.
                 : It just keeps on given'er. Yeah.
    This works in the rc files:
    Code:
        own_window = true,
        own_window_type = 'normal',
        own_window_transparent = false,
        own_window_hints = 'undecorated,sticky,below,skip_taskbar,skip_pager',
        own_window_argb_visual = true,
        own_window_argb_value = 0,
    Yet, on Fedora 31 I downgraded conky to 1.10.8 from 1.11.5 thinking I had to. Hmmmm
    Code:
    $ dnf info conky

    I'm on 1.11.3 conky for the most part (although MX19 and Xubuntu 20.04 both have 1.10.8 for the moment). This is mainly because Paramvir packaged up conky-cairo in the AUR (most of the rest of distros are Arch-based), and the PKGBUILD can be edited to include audacious support in the compile (which I appreciate 'cos I run Audacious). I haven't even tried the 'newer' ones yet, but if we stay locked down much longer who knows!

    Now, if only vertical positioning could be added in soon! Relative ${voffset}s just don't cut it sometimes...
